On November 8th, Professor Koundouri had the honor of delivering the closing keynote at this year’s BLUE PLANET conference. Her presentation focused on the European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant, the most prestigious funding of the EU Research Funding project, “Water Futures,” which is dedicated to designing the next generation of urban drinking water systems and tries to answer the question: How should the world achieve the provisioning of high-quality water services in the future while facing severe climate, economic, and population pressures under deep uncertainty? They bring together economics and decision theory, machine learning and artificial intelligence, water informatics and monitoring, control methodologies, and tools to answer this question.
BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues is an established series of events in the international water sector. It was created in 2011, with the goal of being an evolving platform for exchanging knowledge, ideas, and experiences about solutions to improve the global water situation. Participants range across sectors, with politicians, private industry, researchers and non-government organizations represented. This year’s BLUE PLANET conference was particularly focused on the transformative circular water economy.
