Delphi Economic Forum VIII 2023

On Friday, April 28thProf. Phoebe Koundouri was invited to the Delphi Economic Forum VIII, which took place from Wednesday to Saturday, April 26-29, 2023 in the emblematic town of Delphi. The Thematic Pillars of this year’s forum were Geopolitics Disrupted, Climate & Environment, Sustainable Economy & Finance, Social Inclusiveness, and Technological Advancement.

Professor Phoebe Koundouri, in her intervention, presented the results of the Europe Sustainable Development Report 2022 focused on the goal SDG 5: Gender equality

Gender Equality in 2022:

  • Challenges remain: In Europe and Australia over 70% of the goal achieved
  • Significant challenges: North America and Latin America with 50% of the goal achieved – Greece also falls into this category.
  • Mayor challenges: Africa, Middle East, and South Asia below 30% of the achievement of the goal.

By 2030, very few countries will have reached the SDG 5: Gender equality, including the UK and the Nordic countries.

In addition, as President of EAERE, Professor Koundouri announced EAERE’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) initiative, which aims to address diversity, equality and inclusion issues, as well as to support initiatives aimed at removing barriers to creating an inclusive environment in the economic profession.

Furthermore, in the framework of the Delphi VIII Economic Forum, Professor Koundouri was invited by the Vice President Philip Morris International, Mr. Christos Harpantidis, to an Executive Dinner on “Synergies for sustainable development in SE Europe: Challenges & Opportunities”. During this event she talked about the tools for ESG and SDG reporting that the Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation (AE4RIA) that she leads has developed in order to facilitate a financially sustainable transformation of companies towards implementing the EC Corporate Sustainability Reporting requirements.
