Stefanos Xenarios holds a PhD in environmental economics from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Greece, while he has also been a Marie Curie Fellow in Leeds University (UK) along his doctorate studies. He has later gained a 3-years of postdoctoral experience in India and Ethiopia by being employed in International Water Management Institute (IWMI). He further got employed in the Norwegian Research for Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) where he mainly conducted research on climate change and agriculture in South Asia.  Stefanos is currently Senior Water and Energy Policy Adviser in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Office in Tajikistan. From February 2017, Stefanos will work as a Senior Research Scientist in the Mountain Societies Research Institute, http://www.ucentralasia.org/Research/MSRI  hosted by the University of Central Asia, based in Kyrgyzstan.

A multilingual native of Corfu, Greece, Joanna is a graduate of the University of Bristol where she earned her PhD in 1994. She has previously held positions at the University of St Andrews, University of Nottingham, University of Bristol and Loughborough University before joining La Trobe University in February 2011.  Her research interests lie in the areas of industrial organization (especially innovation, R&D cooperation and research joint ventures, technology and environmental policies), applied microeconomic theory, the economics of science and knowledge transfer and the economics of higher education. Joanna has received funding for her research from the British Academy, the ESRC, JISC, CNRS and the Spanish Government.  She has published a range of papers including articles in the following Journals: Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Industrial Economics, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Review of Industrial Organization, Journal of Regulatory Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Review of International Economics, Oxford Review of Economic Policy and the Southern Economic Journal.  Non academic interests include: Pugs, skiing, sailing, photography, wildlife and building model aeroplanes.

Dr. Sushanta Mahapatra completed his Ph.D degree in Economics from a premier Indian Council of Social Science Research Institute, Madras Institute of Development Studies through the University of Madras, Chennai. He has completed the Post- doctoral research of prestigious European Commission Post-Doctoral Scholarship Erasmus Mundus India4EU II Programme at the Department of Economics Science in the University of Bologna, Italy. Dr. Mahapatra is currently working as Professor in Economics and Sustainable development at Amrita MBA Program, Amrita University, Kochi, India and teaches in Master and Doctoral Programme, guides PhD scholars and undertake funded research project. Prior to joining Amrita, he has worked in NABARD-BIRD as Senior Researcher at the Center for Micro Finance and subsequently at Center for Insurance and Risk Management at Institute for Financial Management and Research, Chennai. He has collaborated in research projects supported by organizations like ILO Geneva, CARE Foundation, Harvard School of Public Health, RSBY, SRTT, Ministry of Rural Development Govt of India, SBI and NABARD. He has also previously worked as a Senior Scientist within a multi-disciplinary team at JRD Tata Ecotechnology Centre, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai. He has published his research ideas in Books, journals, edited volumes, conference proceedings and working papers. Besides, he has presented several papers in International and National level seminars and acted as reviewer for several journals. He is the recipient of prestigious Malcolm Elizabeth Adiseshiah Doctoral Merit Fellowship from Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai.

Kerry Smith is a professor of environmental economics at the W.P. Carey School of Business at ASU. He directs the Center for Environmental Economics and Sustainability Policy in the L. William Seidman Research Institute, which serves as a link between the local, national and international business communities and the W.P. Carey School of Business. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a university fellow at Resources for the Future, a nonprofit think tank based in Washington, D.C.. He is also a fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and of the American Agricultural Economics Association. Smith came to ASU from North Carolina State, where he was a University Distinguished Professor and the Director of the Center for Environmental and Resource Economic Policy.

Ariel Dinar is a Professor of Environmental Economics and Policy at the School of Public Policy, University of California, Riverside. His work addresses various aspects of economic and strategic behavior of management of natural resources and the environment. Dr Dinar received his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Since then he spent 15 years in the World Bank working on water economics and climate change issues. In 2009, Dr Dinar moved to UCR, where he assumed a professorship at University of California, Riverside. Dr Dinar founded the Water Science and Policy Center, which he directed until 2014. Dr Dinar is an International Fellow of the Center for Agricultural Economic Research of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel since November 2010; a Fulbright Senior Specialist since 2003; and was named the 2015 Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. He authored and co-authored nearly 150 peer reviewed papers and co-authored and edited 24 books and textbooks. He founded two technical journals (Strategic Behavior and the Environment, and Water Economics and Policy) for which he serves as an Editor-in-Chief.

Richard T. Carson is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of California, San Diego. He is also a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney’s Centre for the Study of Choice. Carson served as President of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE). He is an elected Fellow of AERE and of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. Carson previously served as Research Director for International Environmental Policy at the University of California’s Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation and as a Senior Fellow at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Carson received a Ph.D. in resource economics, a M.A. in statistics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1985 and a M.A. in international relations from George Washington University in 1979.

Madhu Khanna is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Her research focuses on environmental policy analysis and incentives for adoption of environmentally friendly technologies. She examines the effectiveness of voluntary environmental initiatives by corporations and information disclosure for reducing toxic releases. She also analyzes the design and targeting of agro-environmental policies. Her research has been funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency, US Department of Energy, and the Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research.

Dr. Roumasset’s primary areas of research stem an NSF grant on energy substitution and sustainable development, the ERS/USDA PREISM program and a number of USGS grants on the sustainable development and conservation of water resources. He has previously held positions at UC Davis; the University of the Philippines; ANU; Yale; the University of Maryland; the International Rice Research Institute and the World Bank, where he worked as a long- term consultant on irrigation economics. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Western Economic Association International and the editorial boards of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Contemporary Economic Policy, Asian Journal of Agriculture and Development, Asian Journal of Agricultural Economics, and SE Asian Journal of Agricultural Economics. His publications and extramural grants during the last 10 years have focused on developing new methods for policy analysis for resource and environmental management problems in Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific Region and promoting new connections both between and within disciplines via sustainability science. He has also published widely on agricultural development, transaction cost economics, risk and decision-making, and the nature, causes and consequences of public policy.
