Fraternal Economy of Integral & Sustainable Development – Workshop on the Summit of the Future

On March 4th and 5th, the Workshop on the Summit of the Future of the “Program on Fraternal Economy of Integral & Sustainable Development” took place at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Vatican City. This gathering served as a precursor to the Summit of the Future, with a specific focus on ethical principles and proposed reforms across the five major areas of the SOTF agenda: sustainable development and financing, international peace and security, science, technology, and innovation, youth and future generations, and global governance. The High-Level Group of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network dedicated their efforts within the Summit of the Future initiative to create a statement aimed at revitalizing the United Nations to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The statement will be made available very soon!

Prof. Koundouri’s speech highlighted the need for further inter-disciplinary and intra- disciplinary science-based support for the sustainability transition solutions, and the continuous monitoring and assessment of their implementation impact at different scales: international, regional, national, sub-national, institutional, company level. She also focused on the need to accelerate the efforts to smartening our finance institutions and instruments in order to provide the means and capacity for SDG implementation, especially via efficient and solidarity-driven multilateral institutions and public private partnerships. The current multi-crisis is affecting all, developed and developing countries, and solutions need to be at global level. As an example she presented the SDSN Global Climate Hub methods and impact across the world in compacting climate change.
