Position: Ph.D. in Computer Science

Dr. Georgios Feretzakis serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member and Researcher at the Hellenic Open University’s School of Science and Technology. In addition, he holds a position as a contract researcher at the Research Laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is also affiliated with the Sustainable Development Unit at the ATHENA Research Center. His roles across these institutions reflect a comprehensive engagement with research focused on Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and their applications in socio-economic and environmental sustainability.

His areas of expertise include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Decision Trees, AI applications in Healthcare, and Medical Informatics. Dr. Feretzakis’s academic foundation is built upon a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a Master’s degree in Biostatistics, and a Master’s degree in Information Systems. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science, where his dissertation titled ‘Knowledge Hiding in Decision Trees’ made contributions to machine learning and data privacy.

He holds a tutorship within the Data Science and Machine Learning Master’s Program at the Hellenic Open University (HOU), where he also contributes to the program’s leadership. Furthermore, he supervises thesis work of graduate students in the Master of Science in Information Systems program. Dr. Feretzakis’s professional accreditations include the Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102) and the Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) certifications.

Dr. Feretzakis’s research encompasses a range of topics including data mining, microbial resistance in hospitals, and the application of AI in healthcare. His work has been recognized with several awards (Business IT Excellence, Healthcare Business Awards). Inclusion of the research entitled “Use of Artificial Intelligence in Empirical Therapy” in the repository of innovations of the Greek public administration of the Ministry of Interior.

Dr. Georgios Feretzakis is associated with the Big Data Analytics and Anonymization Lab at the Hellenic Open University, where his research contributes to the enhancement of data analytics and privacy. In addition, he is engaged in the BIO-STREAMS study, operating under the HORIZON-HLTH-2022-STAYHLTH-01 program, aiming to improve healthcare through technological innovation. He is also involved in the “Dynamic Information Management Approach For The Implementation Of Climate Resilient Adaptation Packages In European Regions (Impetus)”. His publications and participation in various projects demonstrate his active commitment to the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
