The EAERE Diversity Equity and Inclusion Initiative Online Open Discussion: “Gender and its representation in the professional world”

On the 27th of April 20203, the EAERE DEI Initiative held and online interactive session on Gender so as to bring forward issues and concerns in the context of day to day working life; both on an individual and collective level. The goal of the session was to understand and find hidden causes to be addressed as well as to promote greater inclusivity and equity with respect to gender. Participants were invited to share their views and perceptions on these issues, so as to build on them in future deliberations and provide a first step towards concrete pathways which the committee is keen to develop.

Prof Phoebe Koudouri, delivered the welcome address in her capacity as EAERE President, while Vice Chairs of the DEI Executive committee Dr Ebun Akinsete (AE4RIA Network) and Dr Vinay Kumar (Central University of Jammu) gave presentations on research into Gender issues within EAERE. These were followed by a lively discussion based on a live poll conducted during the event, which explored aspects such as challenges dealing with gender-related bias in the work-place, as well as strategies to mitigate some of these challenges – both at personal and institutional levels.

The DEI Initiative will be holding a live session at the upcoming EAERE Annual Conference being held in Limassol on the 27th to the 30th of June 2023.  Learn more on the work of the DEI Initiative here
