World Academy of Art and Science Board meeting – Presentation and Discussion of the HS4A Campaign

On Tuesday, October 11, Professor Phoebe Koundouri, participated in the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences (WAAS). After three years, this was the first personal meeting organized in Bucharest. Discussion topics included procedural and organizational issues related to the upcoming WAAS activities, the Board also welcomed the new trustees and discussed proposals to strengthen the future work of WAAS.

In addition, a special meeting to launch the HS4A Human Security for All Campaign organized by the WAAS Board of Trustees and Academy members. Mr. Garry Jacobs, President, World Academy of Art & Science & Executive Chair, HS4A and Mr. Emil Constantinescu, Former President of Romania hosted this meeting. HS4A is a joint project of the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security and the World Academy of Arts & Sciences.

On this occasion, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri, as WAAS fellow and Trustee and UN SDSN chair of the Global Climate Hub, spoke about how UN-WAAS project on Human Security can be structured around the current multiple crises that humanity faces (pandemics, economic recession and inflation, climate change, biodiversity collapse, energy crisis, food crisis, population crisis, geopolitical crisis and the ever increasing inequality crisis) and how the UN Global Climate Hub can be integrated in the project.

The goal of the meeting was to identify opportunities for WAAS Fellows and Associates to engage and contribute to the campaign.  This one-year campaign will reach out to decision-makers, institutions and the general public around the world to promote a comprehensive, integrated, people-centred approach to enhancing the security, human rights and sustainable development of people everywhere.
