Members of the Sustainable Development Observatory at the European Economic and Social Committee are organising a conference on sustainable development in order to celebrate the world environment day and raise awareness on the challenges, but particularly on the opportunities, that a sustainable economic and social development can bring along for businesses, environment and European citizens. The conference will gather speakers from the UN, the EU and the Czech government as well as academics, representatives from civil society and EESC members Brenda King, President of the Sustainable Development Observatory, and Roman Haken.
The event will take place on 5 June in Prague at the European Commission premises. EESC members will present the opinion: “A European Sustainable Development Civil Society Forum” and some other recommendations on the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There will be an opportunity to speak about the activities at UN and national level, as well as to present the views of the Czech Government Council for Sustainable Development. The last session of the conference will provide a moderated discussion with examples of activities from universities and organised civil society.
