Professor Phoebe Koundouri presented at the 8th Sustainability Summit for Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean, organized by Economist Impact SE Europe Events, with a speech titled “The Fight for Sustainability: Where Are We Heading?”
In her address, she highlighted the mission of the SDSN Global Climate Hub, which focuses on developing integrated solutions and pathways for achieving climate neutrality and resilience. These pathways are embedded within socio-economic and financial systems and are supported by participatory processes that involve various stakeholders.
Professor Koundouri emphasized the Hub’s data-driven approach to decarbonization, exploring different scenarios to achieve climate goals. She articulated that the European Union can reach its decarbonization targets by investing in renewable energy sources. Specifically, she advocated for a transparent transition pathway and a European plan that enables Southern countries to produce affordable solar energy.
The event featured notable figures, including Jeffrey Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Domagoj Juricic from MKPS Croatia, and Rania Assariotaki from The American College of Greece.
