Dr. Conrad Landis and Ms. Lydia Papadaki, researchers at the Athens University of Economics and Business, recently participated in the 14th Systemic Innovation Workshop organized by the UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub in Pohang, Republic of Korea, held on July 3–4, 2025.
Additionally, Professor Dr. Phoebe Koundouri delivered a keynote address virtually on the topic of Integrated Basin‑scale Water Modelling and Forecasting, with a focus on hydrological and hydro-economic modeling to improve flood and drought prediction and to optimize multi-sector water allocation.
This two-day workshop brought together international experts, city officials, representatives from UN bodies, and academic researchers to collaboratively design transformative innovation projects that support carbon neutrality in industrial cities. Employing systemic innovation and backcasting methodologies, the discussions centered on key topics including steel decarbonization, secondary battery sustainability, green mobility, and decentralized energy systems.
Dr. Landis and Ms. Papadaki contributed their expertise on climate-aligned urban transitions, institutional innovation, and collaborative frameworks aimed at accelerating climate solutions. Their participation highlights the Athens University of Economics and Business’s growing contribution to the development of practical, scalable strategies at the intersection of research, policy, and systemic transformation.
The outcomes of this workshop will inform global innovation initiatives that are set to be featured at COP30.
