The Athens Climate Hub is a collaborative initiative between AE4RIA – Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Αephoria, led by Professor Phoebe Koundouri, and the Global Shapers Athens Hub, with Argyri Dimitrakopoulou as Co-Lead. The Hub is part of the global network of The Climate Reality Project, an international initiative founded by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore to catalyse climate action through education, advocacy, leadership development, and community mobilisation.
Based in Athens, Greece, the Athens Climate Hub aims to empower local communities to take meaningful climate action by bringing together citizens, institutions, municipalities, schools, businesses, and grassroots organizations in an inclusive and collaborative space.
Through climate education, strategic partnerships, and hands-on initiatives, the Hub will promote practical solutions in key areas such as clean energy, sustainable mobility, and circular economy practices. Drawing on the mission of The Climate Reality Project to turn awareness into action, the Athens Climate Hub will support local actors in understanding the climate crisis, identifying opportunities for change, and implementing solutions that respond to the needs of the city and its communities.
By fostering dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and co-creation among local stakeholders, the initiative seeks to transform climate awareness into tangible outcomes and accelerate Athens’ transition towards a more resilient, sustainable, and low-carbon future.
The Athens Climate Hub will focus on local climate action, education, and policy, supporting community engagement and building partnerships that can deliver real impact at the city level.
