COP29 Panel: “The Evolution of ClimateCOP29 Change in Greece – The Exceptional Last Decade” – Greek Pavilion, Blue Zone

At the Greek Pavilion, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri joined esteemed colleagues for the panel “The Evolution of Climate Change in Greece – The Exceptional Last Decade” to discuss on Greece’s ambitious path to carbon neutrality by 2050, including key milestones such as the lignite coal phase-out by 2028, the expansion of renewable energy, and leadership in climate adaptation and sustainable tourism.

Prof. Koundouri presented on the SDSN Global Climate Hub’s Transformation Pathways for Climate Neutrality and Resilience, highlighting socio-economic strategies and digital innovations essential for a sustainable future.

The panel was moderated by George Kremlis, President of the Circular Economy and Climate Institute at the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), and included contributions from Prof. Christos Zerefos, Secretary General of the Academy of Athens and Climate Envoy for Greece; Prof. Emmanouil Kakaras, National Technical University of Athens; Dr. Ioannis Kapsomenakis, and Dr. Stavros Solomos, both from the Research Center for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology at the Academy of Athens.
