Dimitris Kofinas is a PhD Civil Engineer, University of Thessaly. His thesis was on advanced tools for urban water demand simulation and forecasting at multiple spatio-temporal scales, with the scientific supervision of Prof. Chrysi Laspidou. His scientific interests extend to Mathematical Modeling, Water system Simulation Methods, Water Resources Management, Lake Modeling, Water Reuse and Reclamation and the WEF Nexus. He finished his M.Sc. in System Simulation and Design of Civil Engineering Works in 2013, from University of Thessaly. His M.Sc. Thesis is “Mathematical Modelling and Simulation of the “New” Lake Karla with the PCLake Software: Hydrology, Water Balance, Quality and Ecology”. He was awarded his Civil Engineering Integrated Master’s Degree in 2010, from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has attended and successfully put through in 2014 the online course on Environmental Flows of UNESCO- IHE, Delft University. In May 2020 he participated in the worldwide EUvsVirus Hackathon with an international team of 15 scientists and won the first prize at one of the six domains with the solution “Sewers4COVID”. He is Working Group co-leader in the NEXUSNET Cost Action. He has been working, since 2014 as a research associate, in several national and EU projects, such as ISS-EWATUS, LAKEREMAKE, SIM4NEXUS, Water4Cities, SMARTEN, MAGO, NEXOGENESIS and ARSINOE. He has held lectures for the Water Academies initiative. He has worked as a civil engineer in the water utility of Skiathos, and has also gained work experience as a Marie Curie fellow in the urban planning company LUZ in Ljubljana, Slovenia and in the informatics company iQuadrat in Barcelona, Spain.
