On Saturday, September 21, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, a full day of discussions centered on actionable steps to advance the Sustainable Development Goals during the event titled “Shaping the Future through Action and Partnerships: Building a Resilient and Equitable World.” This event was hosted in the SDG Media Zone by the UN Department of Global Communications and the PVBLIC Foundation
Professor Koundouri moderated and gave a speech during the panel on “Educating for Global Sustainability: Systems Leadership for a Resilient Future.” Alongside Dr. Ali Mashayek, Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and Dr. Gene Leon, Executive Director of the Development Bank for Resilient Prosperity Program, they discussed how financial systems can foster sustainable development, especially in vulnerable regions like Small Island Developing States.
Additionally, they highlighted the transformative power of data-driven solutions, the recognition of natural assets in promoting global sustainability, and the need for systems-based education and science-led leadership to tackle pressing challenges such as climate change and economic inequality.
