Professor Phoebe Koundouri took part in a strategic meeting of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) Board of Trustees on August 24th.
“As elected fellow and member of the Board of Trustees of the WAAS, I am delighted to be able to co-design the future of this most prestigious organization. WAAS was co-founded 6 decades ago by Robert Oppenheimer, Albert Einstein, and other imminent scientists and artists”.
The Academy is a transnational trust with a mission to study the social consequences and policy implications of all forms of knowledge, especially science and technology. In 2023, WASS and the UN launched the “Human Security for All” initiative aiming to promote measures to prevent the mistakes of the past, as Oppenheimer tried to do in the aftermath of World War II. Its goal is to affirm human security as an inviolable human right and to support measures to make that human security a reality in the world.
