Prof. Phoebe Koundouri was honored to participate in the EU Ocean Accounts Workshop held in Brussels on 9–10 April 2025, organized under the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). This high-level workshop brought together policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from across Europe and beyond to advance ocean accounting as a tool for sustainable marine governance. Discussions focused on the current state of ocean accounts in the EU, key implementation challenges, and lessons from international initiatives.
During Session 6: Experiences with Ocean Accounts: Countries, Prof. Koundouri presented on the Valuation of Marine Ecosystem Services, highlighting its importance in enhancing evidence-based decision-making and promoting the sustainable use of marine resources.
