XII Baku Global Forum: The Role of Universities in Promoting Peace and Security in the Extended Black Sea Region

As a Fellow and Trustee of the World Academy of Art and Science Art & Science and Member of the Leadership Council of SDSN Black Sea, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri participated in the International Workshop on “The Role of Universities in Promoting Peace and Security in the Extended Black Sea Region – from the Caucasus to the Balkans,” held at Baku Higher Oil School during the XII Baku Global Forum.

Organized by the Black Sea Universities Network, the World Academy of Art & Science, and SDSN Black Sea, the workshop explored the critical role of universities in addressing regional challenges. The panel discussions focused on how universities can contribute to tackling migration, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing human security in the Extended Black Sea Region, while also identifying key priorities for peace and stability.

In her remarks, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri highlighted the work at the SDSN Global Climate Hub GCH, which she chairs, in developing country-specific action plans to achieve climate neutrality and resilience, utilizing extensive data and expertise from various fields. She also emphasized the importance of integrating the GCH’s methodologies into university curricula and research agendas to empower institutions in the Black Sea Region to effectively address climate-related challenges.
